PepsiCo Positive: Faster, better and stronger for the EU Green Deal

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 11:21:16 GMT

There has been much discussion over recent months concerning the EU Green Deal, its ongoing relevance, its direction. We have seen some reports which suggest that business lobbies against the Green Deal, with a view to seeing it diminished or halted. With that in mind, I want to confirm that PepsiCo strongly supports the broad thrust of the EU Green Deal, believes that the agenda remains as vital and valid as ever, and hopes that the incoming Parliament and Commission from 2024 to 2029 will continue to develop clear policies that promote sustainability and address climate change.I want to confirm that PepsiCo strongly supports the broad thrust of the EU Green Deal.To be clear — we need those policies. We need new legislation. Without the right policy framework, PepsiCo will struggle to achieve the ambitious targets that we set for ourselves two years ago with PepsiCo Positive (pep+).pep+ is our blueprint for harmonizing our corporate activities with environmental and socia...

Speaker battle looms: ‘Bring it on,’ McCarthy says

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 11:21:16 GMT

WASHINGTON — Rep. Matt Gaetz said Sunday he will try to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a fellow Republican, from his leadership position this week after McCarthy relied on Democratic support to pass legislation that avoided a government shutdown. “Bring it on,” McCarthy responded.“The only way Kevin McCarthy is speaker of the House at the end of this coming week is if Democrats bail him out,” Gaetz said Sunday.Gaetz, a longtime McCarthy nemesis, said in broadcast interviews that McCarthy was in “brazen, material breach” of agreements he made with House Republicans in January when he ran for speaker. As a result, Gaetz said he would be filing a ” motion to vacate the chair,” as House rules permit.McCarthy’s response: “So be it. Bring it on. Let’s get over with it and let’s start governing.”No speaker has ever been removed from office through such a move. Procedural votes could be offered to halt the m...

Devers records third 100 RBI season, Red Sox beat Orioles 6-1 in season finale

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 11:21:16 GMT

It was originally ruled no RBI, but everyone in Camden Yards knew it wouldn’t be long before the call was changed. With one out in the top of the third and a man at third base, Rafael Devers grounded a soft chopper to shortstop Gunnar Henderson, who booted the ball and allowed both the runner to score and Devers to reach safely. Though the play was correctly ruled an error, it’s hard to imagine Henderson could have thrown the runner out at the plate.Needless to say it wasn’t surprising when Devers was awarded his 100th RBI, a small consolation as what has otherwise been an incredibly disappointing season drew to a close. The Red Sox wrapped up their second consecutive fifth place season with a 6-1 win over the postseason-bound Baltimore Orioles, who treated Sunday’s finale as a low-stakes tune-up for their coming playoff run. The Orioles used eight pitchers and committed three errors, and after the Red Sox took an early lead they broke the game open with a four...

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 11:21:16 GMT

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The tanker truck crash in central Illinois that killed five people may have started when another vehicle tried to pass the chemical-laden truck, a federal transportation official said Sunday. The tanker truck was carrying caustic anhydrous ammonia when it jackknifed Friday night, and hit a utility trailer parked just off the highway, according to Tom Chapman, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board. The tank carrying anhydrous ammonia hit the trailer hitch of the other vehicle, which punched a six-inch (15 centimeter) hole in the chemical container, Chapman said during news conference Sunday.Chapman said the tanker truck’s driver pulled to the right and ran off the road as it traveled west on U.S. 40 in Teutoplis, a small community about 110 miles (177 kilometers) northeast of St. Louis. “It happened in a relatively short period of time,” Chapman said. “This was a rapid sequence of events.”The accident occurred about 8:40 p.m. local time, C...
