DENVER (KDVR) -- Joseph Maldonado-Passage, known widely as "Joe Exotic," has filed the paperwork to appear on the 2024 Democratic presidential primary ballot in Colorado, according to the former zookeeper. The 60-year-old was the subject of the popular Netflix documentary "Tiger King," which was released in 2020. Maldonado is currently serving a 21-year sentence in federal prison after being convicted in a murder-for-hire plot. Because he's not set to be released until years after the 2024 election ends, he will run his campaign from prison. ‘Tiger King’ announces 2024 presidential bid According to Maldonado, only two other people have done so before him.Nothing in the law prevents a person from running for president from prison or as a convicted felon. This is because, constitutionally, the only requirements for office are that someone is 35 years or older, is a natural-born citizen and has been a resident for 14 years. In 2024, Maldonado is running as a Democrat, according to fede...Denver metro rent may have hit lowest level of the year

DENVER (KDVR) — Housing is getting relatively cheaper in the U.S., but not so much in the Denver metro. Rent.com released its June rent report, and the results have some refreshing news. Rent is dropping in the U.S. compared to where it was a year ago. "After nearly two years of constant rent growth, the national median rent price was less in May than it was a year ago," the report reads. "The negative 0.57% drop in yearly prices was the first time prices went negative since March 2020." Could Colorado home prices set a new record this summer? The drop in rent hasn't been evenly spread across the country, however. Some cities have seen their median rent drop substantially in the last year, while others have seen a spike. Denver metro rent is in the gray zone, having shrank a marginal 0.15% in the last year - around $4 cheaper than last summer. Denver is among the higher-priced rental markets in the nation with a median rent of $2,701 for all apartments. The report said rent decline...Back-to-back earthquakes recorded in southern Colorado Monday

DENVER (KDVR) — Tick season has begun in Colorado and with all the wet weather, there could be an uptick. With a possible increase in the spider-like creatures this year, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has a strange request. They want you to mail them your ticks. CDPHE's Colorado Citizen Scientist Tick Surveillance Project is asking the community to send them ticks so that they can better understand what types of ticks live in the state and where they are often located. Once the tick is mailed, an entomologist will determine the species, but they will not be tested for diseases. Experts say wet spring could lead to uptick in ticks Those interested in sending a tick can fill out the submission form. The form asks questions about where the tick was found and whether it was on an animal or a human.Once the form is filled out, the tick can be sent double-bagged in a zip-lock and mailed to the entomology lab.CDPHE does say that it is not routine for the lab to...BSO search for missing 62-year-old man in Tamarac
